Get Up and Get Going

Meet patient Thomas Myers! He has been an above-knee amputee since June 2021. His amputation was the result of a failed total knee replacement. His life has been full of accomplishments and unique hobbies and skills. He was in the Navy from 1987-1991. He continued to work for the US Navy in Naples, Italy until 2016. It was there that he met his wife.  He left the Navy to care for his wife. Unfortunately, she passed away. Tom moved back to the USA to be with his family and have his failed knee replacement fixed.

“My life changed when I was told I would need to have an amputation to remove the botched knee replacement. I did a lot of praying. I also spoke to other amputees and convinced myself that God had another plan for my life.”

Tom enjoys spending time at his home in Bradford, Ohio. His other hobbies include woodworking and toy making which he has enjoyed for the past 20 years. Tom also has a vacation home in Naples, Italy. In the short time, he has been an amputee, he is able to stand independently, walk up and down stairs, drive, and ride his bike again. He had these words of encouragement to offer other amputees:

“There is hope and light at the end of the tunnel. You can sit in a chair all day or get up and get going. Don’t give up!”
